Die Compagnie Soria – Masken- und Figurentheater
Die Compagnie Soria ist eine französische Theater-Kompanie aus Bordeaux, die sich auf Masken- und Figurentheater spezialisiert hat. Sie wird von Marie Soriano und Lucien Cassou geleitet, die seit zehn Jahren gemeinsam in der Welt des europäischen physischen Theaters tätig sind. Die beiden laden in zwei Intensiv-Workshops dazu ein, in die faszinierende Welt der Theatermasken einzutauchen. WORKSHOP MASKENBAU
Sa 26. & So 27.April 2025, 10:00-17:00 (12h) Workshop Maskenbau
Kurssprache: Englisch
In diesem Maskenbau-Workshop habt ihr die Möglichkeit, eure eigene Theatermaske zu gestalten. Ihr lernt, wie ihr eine Maske von Grund auf modelliert, formt und bemalt. Schritt für Schritt erarbeitet ihr eure einzigartige Kreation – vom ersten Entwurf bis zum letzten Pinselstrich. Ihr werdet verschiedene Techniken und Materialien kennenlernen und eure Maske von der Tonmodellierung bis zur finalen Bemalung selbst gestalten.
Eure Reise beginnt mit dem Entwurf der Maske, die ihr anschließend in Ton formt. Danach wird ein Abbild dieser Skulptur aus thermoverformbarem Harz angefertigt. Als letzter Schritt wird die Maske bemalt und mit Befestigungen ergänzt, damit sie auf dem Schauspielendenkörper „zum Leben erweckt“ werden kann.
Der Workshop wird auf Englisch angeboten und ist für alle offen – ob ihr nun Theaterbegeisterte, Künstler*innen oder einfach neugierig seid. Lasst euch von der Kraft der Masken inspirieren und entfaltet eure Kreativität!

MASK-MAKING WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 26 & Sunday, April 27, 2025, 10:00–17:00 (12 hours)
Course language: English
In this mask-making workshop, you will have the opportunity to create your own theatre mask. You will learn how to model, shape, and paint a mask from scratch. Step by step, you will develop your unique creation – from the initial design to the final brushstroke. You will explore various techniques and materials and create your mask from clay modelling to final painting.
Your journey begins with designing your mask, which you will then sculpt in clay. After that, a mold of this sculpture will be made from thermoformable resin. The final step is painting the mask and adding fastenings, so that it can „come to life“ on the actor’s face.
The workshop will be taught in English and is open to everyone – whether you’re a theatre enthusiast, artist, or simply curious. Let the power of the masks inspire you and unleash your creativity!

Theatre, Love, Politics – Theater der Unterdrückten mit Jana Sanskriti aus Indien
Wir freuen uns sehr: Sima und Sanjoy Ganguly von JANA SANSKRITI bieten einen 2-tägigen Workshop in Wien an. Jana Sanskriti hat seinen Sitz in Westbengalen in Indien und ist die größte Bewegung des Theater der Unterdrückten (TdU) weltweit. In diesem Workshop werden Sima und Sanjoy ihr Wissen und ihre Erfahrungen ihrer einzigartigen und ermächtigenden Arbeit teilen.
Die Teilnehmer*innen können im Workshop folgendes erfahren:
– Die wesentliche Sprache des Theater der Unterdrückten: Bild- und Forumtheater
– Theaterspiele als soziale Metapher
– Wie man ein Drehbuch schreibt, anstatt das Drehbuch zu spielen
– Erforschung der Selbstermächtigung durch Theater
– Internationale Verbindung zwischen Theateraktivist*innen
Der Workshop wird in englischer Sprache abgehalten. Eine deutsche Flüsterübersetzung ist möglich.

Theatre, Love, Politics – Theatre of the Oppressed with Jana Sanskriti from India
We are very happy to announce that Sima and Sanjoy Ganguly from JANA SANSKRITI will offer a 2-days workshop in Vienna. Jana Sanskriti is based in Westbengal in India and is the biggest Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) movement worldwide. In this workshop Sima and Sanjoy will share their knowledge and experience of their unique and empowering work.
Participants can expect to discover:
- The essential language of TO: Image and Forum Theatre
- Games as social metaphor
- How to script the play instead of playing the script
- Researching the question of empowerment through theatre
- International connection between theatre activists
This workshop is for everyone, no matter your experience with theatre or TO.
The workshop will be held in English. German whisper translation is possible.

Dieser Intensiv-Workshop richtet sich sowohl an professionelle Künstler*innen als auch an Amateur*innen und bietet eine spannende Reise durch drei bedeutende Masken-Theater-Traditionen: die Halbmaske der Commedia dell’arte, die Larvenmaske und die neutrale Maske.
Durch kreative Übungen und Improvisationen erforscht ihr die Körpersprache und lernt, wie ihr durch die Maske die Bühnenpräsenz und Ausdruckskraft verstärken könnt. Ihr werdet entdecken, wie sich aus der Maske eine lebendige Figur entwickeln lässt und erste Szenen sowie Improvisationsstrukturen erarbeiten.

Here, you will experience how a mask reveals new, fascinating ways to express yourself on stage. This intensive workshop is open to both professional artists and amateurs and offers an exciting journey through three significant mask theatre traditions: the half-mask of Commedia dell’arte, the larval mask, and the neutral mask.
Through creative exercises and improvisations, you will explore body language and learn how to enhance your stage presence and expressiveness through the mask. You will discover how to transform the mask into a living character and create scenes and improvisational structures.
